The GNU APL Bible -- Preview
============================

Bible-Preview.pdf is a free preview of "The GNU APL Bible: Implementing
APL in C++" by Dr. Jürgen Sauermann: front cover, table of contents,
preface, and the first three chapters.

About the book
--------------

The GNU APL Bible is a 324-page, 29-chapter guided tour of the GNU APL
interpreter's ~175,000-line C++ implementation, written by its
long-time maintainer. Across eight parts it works from the core data
model (Value, Shape, Cell types) through tokenization, parsing, and
execution, into the built-in functions and operators, workspace and
symbol management, and the optional/advanced features -- the libapl
embedding API, native functions and auxiliary processors, parallel
execution, the WebSocket/GUI interfaces, and the Windows port -- before
closing with a practical guide to navigating, maintaining, and
contributing to the source tree.

Written in the spirit of Knuth's "The Art of Computer Programming":
precise, heavily annotated code listings, historical notes tracing
APL's lineage back to Iverson's 1962 notation, and end-of-chapter
exercises. It is aimed at anyone who wants to understand GNU APL from
the inside -- current and prospective maintainers, C++ developers
studying a substantial real-world interpreter, students of language
implementation, and APL users simply curious how their interpreter
works.
